Prof. Dr. Florian Meissner

Prof. Dr. Florian Meissner is Professor of Media Management and Journalism at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences, Cologne. In the DigiFit project, he is responsible for the sub-project “Development of an evidence based communication strategy to promote digital fitness” where he primarily contributes his research focus on risk and crisis communication. At ECREA, the European association for communication science, he has been on the leadership team of the Crisis Communication Section since 2018 and started to chair it in 2022. Before taking up his professorship in Cologne, Florian Meissner completed his doctorate in journalism at TU Dortmund University and later worked as a postdoc at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. His professional experience includes several years in journalism, predominantly at public broadcasters.

The research perspective is often international and/or interdisciplinary. Methodologically, the professorship stands for a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches.
