Dr. Valentina Nachtigall

Valentina Nachtigall is a postdoctoral researcher in the Educational Psychology and Technology Research Group at Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. She currently serves as a junior researcher (JURE) coordinator of the Special Interest Group 20 (Inquiry Learning) of the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI), and is a member of the Global Young Faculty. Her research focuses on investigating and supporting students’ conceptions about research and scientists. In this context, she examines the conditions and effects of authentically contextualized learning.

The research group examines principles and conditions of learning in different domains and settings. The goal is to gain a better understanding of learning mechanisms and to derive implications for educational practice. In our research group, we investigate cognitive, motivational, and social aspects of learning by employing experimental research methods in laboratory and field studies. A main research focus is on developing and evaluating digital, instructional support. In our studies, we are using adaptive instructional support to optimize learning in digital settings. We use learning analytics methods to examine both problem solving as well as collaborative processes. More information about the research group: http://pp.rub.de
